MallamYamusa Babarbare was the founder of the Barebari ruling house who succeeded Mallam Musa between 1821 to 1834. He was a Fulani man whose origin was traced to Katagum, a kingdom in the past under Borno empire (Makarfi 1990:10). It was from Katagum that he came to Zaria where he joined Mallam Musa to Gobir (Hogben 1967:118) with the conquest of Zazzau, Yamusa held the title of Madaki and remained a preacher.
